Through my eyes

Since this blog is all about views and perspectives, I thought I would incorporate that in the literal sense as well. This is the world through my eyes today. What's the world look like through your's?

Opinions Wanted

So, in case you haven't read my post about the background and intentions for this blog, I'll do a quick summary. (But you should go read it, if you want the full effect.) I created this blog because I have very strong opinions, and I love being made to think and question. The idea is that for each post, I'll pick an issue or topic and share my opinion it and why this is my opinion. However, I know there are a thousand blogs out there like this. So I decided to add a little twist. Whoever is out there reading this, I want to hear YOUR opinions and thoughts on these subjects. Whether it be on the same page as mine or in a book on the other side of the library, I want to hear it. (I'm really bad at metaphors.) I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU. Please, dispute and shoot down every view, every preconceived notion I have. These subjects will probably be a huge variety of things, ranging from high profile political issues to my opinion on the latest blockbuster. Please feel free to comment any issues that you feel strongly about, and I will make that the topic of one of my posts. This blog will not be any fun if you don't PARTICIPATE, I want to hear from all you budding geniuses and great thinkers. So please... COMMENT COMMENT COMMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

New Year's Challenge

Today's Topic: New Year's Resolutions I'm sure that as we move closer to the new year, everyone will be blogging about new year's resolutions. Or at least, I'm assuming this is the case, but I guess I could be wrong, considering my inexperience with blogging. Now, I never have placed much stock in these, as they always have been, at least in my experience, empty promises we make to ourselves. They are nothing but hopes to do better, the false sense of a new beginning. But the reality is, all your problems follow you from one day to the next, and it doesn't matter whether or not it's 2012 or 2013. This being said, it is nice to tell ourselves that once a year, we get a fresh start. We get to change the things about ourselves that we are, we'll, less than content with. And unless you are lying or in complete denial of your human nature, you cannot say that that feeling, no matter how delusional, isn't great. No "New Year's Resolution" that I have ever made has ever come true. So this year, I am not making a Resolution. I am accepting a challenge. This challenge is not a specific act, rather, a lifestyle. Something that I am committing to. Something that I believe, is how we should all live. This "New Year's Challenge," as I have dubbed it, is a quote by Daniel Golston, and it is one of my favorites. I thought I would share it with you, whoever 'you' are, in hopes that you will also take something from it. "If you're going to be passionate about something, be passionate about learning. If you're going to fight something, fight for those in need. If you're going to question something, question authority. If you're going to lose something, lose your inhibitions. If you're going to gain something, gain respect and confidence. And if you're going to hate something, hate the false idea that you are not capable of your dreams."

Background and Intentions

I've never read many blogs, but I figured my first post should tell anyone who is reading this a little about what is to follow. I'm not sure why I decided to start this, other than the fact that evidently it's not "socially acceptable" to start talking to a random stranger on the street about your thoughts and views. But that's kind of what I want to do. I enjoy thought-provoking conversation with smart people. And then, I had an epiphany. This beautiful, wonderful thing called.... the internet. This magical place is full of smart people, right? Or at least, an abundance of dumb people that spend a lot of time reading the ramblings of smart people. I don't really label myself as one of these smart people. But maybe I'll sound like one. And maybe this will be a complete and total, embarrassing fail. So that's why I'll be blogging anonymously. I will, however, tell you a tad bit about myself. My name is Beth. I'm an avid gum chewer. I despise legalism, but I'm not exactly liberal either. I guess I just don't like labels in general. I enjoy Daniel Tosh's sense of humor. I can argue for hours at a time without getting bored, but I can hardly sit through a 'shoot-em-up' scene in an action movie. And... Yeah. The idea for this blog as of right now is that I will pick an issue or subject, it can be anything, and write my opinion on it and why. Please remember, THIS IS MY PERSONAL OPINION. So don't sue me or anything. And then if someone, somewhere is by some chance reading this, you get to express your opinion on this subject. Even if you don't agree with what I write. Actually, make that ESPECIALLY if you don't. I love to hear other peoples' views and as I mentioned earlier, I enjoy arguing. I like hearing things that make me think and question. So comment away! Dispute! Deny! That, my friends, is what I created this blog for.
